Why Change is Necessary in Facebook

Change is the law of nature” This golden principle has been repeated over and over again in different ways and means to me since long. We see change all around us. Take note of the city around you. Where were all these flyovers and malls ten years back? Mind you, I do miss the time gone by, where there was less hustle and bustle but that is for another time. My point today is why change is crucial for facebook to not just stay ahead of the pack but maybe survive as well.

Once upon a time, we all were hooked by yahoo messenger. I remember talking to my messenger friends and taking part in different chat group discussions for hours and hours on my PC. Orkut was another favourite. Although Orkut had the beginner’s advantage, it wasn’t long before Facebook came up and we all know what happened from there. Facebook was started sometime in Mid 2004. It has been 11 years and you have to say that things couldn’t be much better.  So why am I talking about change?

Facebook when it arrived revolutionized the social media platform and the way we interacted with each other. Add a friend, likes, upload pics, facebook messenger have all been vital for this. I enjoy being on facebook and cant imagine a day going by without me logging in. But then, I was attached to Orkut. And Yahoo Messenger too. Who is there to say that someone out there is not making a better platform than Facebook. People have tried and have not had the same success as Facebook. Think Google Plus. But, my gut feeling says, the challenge to Facebook will not come from another version of Orkut. It could be something which is transformational like Twitter. Maybe someone might come up with the best of Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Whatsapp and bring out something new. But, there are many many people and who are much much smarter than me at Facebook who know much more than I do and what is needed. Perhaps that maybe why Mark Zuckerberg paid 19 billion dollars for Whatsapp.

Although facebook has changed with time, I feel it has been in too many bits and pieces. There has been no feature added in recent times which has made me go ‘Wow’. I am sure that I am one among a very small minority who might be saying this but I believe its time for a change.
